Sigma Phi Epsilon is committed to partnering with host institutions in order to achieve its mission of “Building Balanced Men.” Our best opportunities for expanding our impact as a Fraternity, and providing undergraduate men with an exceptional experience, are found at the best institutions and within the healthiest Greek communities. A great institution and Greek community, combined with strong volunteer support and national fraternity resources, fosters an environment that enhances the experience of each member.
A sustainable and high-performing chapter cannot be created in one month. It may take one to two years for a chapter to be self-sufficient and prepared for long-term success. The Fraternity is focused on providing resources throughout the chartering process to ensure that a chapter reaches the milestones necessary for its success. Knowing that all institutions are unique, SigEp cannot rely on a copy-and-paste approach to build healthy new chapters. The Fraternity relies on the information and advice of campus-based Greek life professionals to guide us on what will work within a given community.
Sigma Phi Epsilon’s first priority is to ensure its current chapters have the resources and support to grow and thrive. Beyond that, the Fraternity commits staff, volunteer and financial resources to strategically grow the organization by expanding to new institutions or re-colonizing former chapters each year.
While priority is given to dormant chapters with an active, organized alumni base, Sigma Phi Epsilon will consider all opportunities for expansion.
Currently, all new chapters of Sigma Phi Epsilon are started by a staff-led effort in coordination with the district governor and local alumni-volunteers to ensure the creation of a sustainable chapter. These efforts focus on:
• Volunteer recruitment and training
• Balanced Man Scholarship execution
• Onsite undergraduate recruitment
• Undergraduate training and development
Referrals and suggestions on where SigEp has the potential to build sustainable and high-performing chapters are welcome. Please contact Fraternity Operations Director Seth Irby for additional information.
Once established, the new chapter is recognized as a Sigma Epsilon Chapter until it has met chartering criteria and had a petition approved by the Fraternity’s National Board of Directors. This process typically takes 12 to 24 months, and ensures the chapter’s operations are sustainable and representative of a chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
