Alumni & Volunteer Corporation (AVC) Description

The Alumni & Volunteer Corporation (AVC) provides continuity and financial stability to the undergraduate chapter. Acting as a “board of directors,” the AVC remains a constant presence, having a long-term perspective of the Fraternity.

Purpose of the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation

  • Approve undergraduate chapter budget.
  • To budget and control the receipts and disbursements of the undergraduate chapter.
  • Install and monitor systems of financing and accounting.
  • Hold legal title to any land, buildings, and any furnishings acquired and/or occupied by the chapter.
  • Ensure that the proper financial statements are completed, reviewed, and sent to Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarters.

Each Alumni & Volunteer Corporation is made up of important alumni volunteers who work closely with the undergraduate chapter. These volunteers provide knowledge and advice in the areas of housing, finance, law, academic programming, and alumni contact.

The AVC is typically directed by four officers: president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary, and usually between three and five other members. Each corporation’s own bylaws dictate the election and voting process, the exact term of office and responsibilities of each elected officer and member.

The AVC President and AVC Treasurer work closely with the undergraduate chapter, District Governor, Headquarters, and other key volunteers throughout their term of office. Other volunteers of the AVC, including the Chapter Counselor, bring valuable insight, direction, and support to help better Sigma Phi Epsilon on that campus.

The AVC President is responsible for the general supervision, direction, and well-being of the corporation. He presides at all meetings and sees that duties of other board members are properly performed. The president also represents and speaks for the corporation as assigned him by the AVC. The AVC should meet at least monthly at the chapter facility, if applicable.
