The majority of time at the Ruck Leadership Institute is spent in small groups, comprised of undergraduate brothers from around the country and led by highly successful alumni facilitators. The curriculum is modeled after The Leadership Challenge. Widely acknowledged as one of the best selling leadership books of all time, the book is co-authored by Brother Barry Posner, California- Santa Barbara ’70, and his business partner James Kouzes. The book – and the Ruck curriculum – highlights the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership:
Model The Way
Inspire a Shared Vision
Challenge the Process
Enable Others to Act
Encourage the Heart
Ruck scholars will leave the institute with goals, a personal vision statement and an action plan for bettering themselves and their chapters.
Ruck scholars will also have the opportunity to expand their minds and perspectives. Throughout the program, brothers will hear from and converse with some of SigEp’s most prominent alumni, both as guest speakers and facilitators. Participants also have the opportunity to participate in an engaging and stimulating discussion about the Ritual and its importance in our everyday lives.
During the program, Ruck scholars have the opportunity to work with a nationally renowned nutritionist and personal trainer. They learn the importance of this aspect of the Balanced Man Ideal and how they can implement it into their everyday lives. Scholars also participate in a high ropes course focusing on team communication skills and pushing their personal limits.
