Risk Management Reminders

Understand Directors’ and Officers’ Liability insurance.
Directors' & Officers' Liability insurance protects members and volunteers from claims arising out of their fiduciary responsibilities. SigEp has a policy with a $2 million per occurrence/$2 million aggregate limit and a $2,500 deductible. The annual premium is $500 and the policy covers the chapter, the undergraduate members and officers, and the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation officers. The coverage is with Resurgens Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (RSUI), rated A (XII) Excellent by AM Best & Company. The policy allows for “defense costs” to be paid in addition to the policy limits with no cap.

Case StudyA recent article from the National Underwriter Property & Casualty magazine explains why D&O coverage has become more important for non-profit organizations. If you are interested in this coverage, please contact Risk Management Director Kathy Johnston.

Consider insuring your chapter against bed bugs.
This past spring several outbreaks of bed bugs occurred on college campuses. The cost to eradicate these pests is exorbitant once they have invaded a home or facility. To address this concern, the Fraternity's broker is now offering an insurance product in case these pests come onto your campus.

The Fraternity's Property Insurance Program, which provides comprehensive property and casualty insurance, is pleased to now offer bed bug insurance specifically designed for fraternity and sorority housing. This coverage provides for decontamination expenses, loss of lodging revenue, rehabilitation expenses and more.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
April is designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent it.

Sigma Phi Epsilon's members commit to showing respect, care and concern for others. Our Fraternity does not tolerate any form of sexually abusive behavior collectively or by an individual, be it physical, mental or emotional in nature. This includes any actions which are demeaning to women or men.

When you decide to have sex, you and your partner must be fully conscious and free to act. Having sex with someone who is mentally or physically incapable of giving consent will be considered a sexual assault. No means no. Never use force in sexual situations, no matter what the circumstances.

If you are involved in a sexual assault, you will not be covered under the Fraternity's liability policy.
