HOW CAN VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE CHAPTER ON TRACK DURING WINTER BREAK?
"We set two points of contact. First, we host a dinner with the AVC, incoming executive board and outgoing executive board. Then, before returning to school the AVC hosts a transition retreat with the new executive board." -Aaron Dail, Murray State ‘05
"Montana Beta RLC (Montana State) makes the most of winter break by using it as a launching pad for new executive officers. The chapter holds elections in mid-November with AVC support. The AVC then leads an all-day officer transition retreat in early December, one to two weeks prior to break. The morning of the retreat focuses on bringing the new officers up to speed on their position through knowledge transfer from outgoing officers. In the afternoon, the incoming officer slate moves into team building and goal setting mode. These goals include specific outcomes that will be accomplished over break to ensure that spring semester starts out running smoothly. Typically the undergraduates will hold one or more executive meetings via conference call during the break to hold each other accountable on progress toward the goals." -Bill Schell, Montana State ‘97
"At Washington Beta (Washington) the incoming and outgoing executive board members have a transition retreat with the chapter counselor at the end of finals week. Over the holiday break, the incoming executive members hold an individual meeting with their respective AVC mentor to set and refine their positional goals for the upcoming year.” - Michael Catalano, Washington '10
“We try to have our executive transition retreat before the holidays and then the incoming executive board conducts an off-site together before heading back to school to establish goals and bond as an executive team. Otherwise, we take the time to get some professional cleaning done at the house and take care of closing the financials for the semester.” - Tony Mauro, Colorado State ‘99
