Develop a Plan for Fall 2013 Leases

Many students are already making plans for their 2013-2014 living arrangements. Starting the leasing process early ensures a full facility and a strong financial position for your AVC. Here are a few helpful hints:

  • Set an occupancy requirement for the chapter.
  • Distribute leases as soon as possible and establish a due date of December 1 or before winter break.
  • Discuss the lease and the chapter’s responsibility for filling the facility in a chapter meeting.
  • Assess progress with chapter leadership before winter break.
  • Prior to spring recruitment, give the current membership a “last call” for signing leases.
  • Members in jeopardy of not fulfilling their live-in requirements must be held accountable to their membership agreements.
  • The chapter should develop a spring recruitment plan centered on filling any vacant beds in the facility without sacrificing standards. This is likely the best and last chance to fill spots in the chapter house for next year.

Read this sample lease agreement.

Please note the last page of the sample lease is a guaranty agreement, to be signed by a parent or guardian. Securing a parent/guardian guaranty on every lease is highly beneficial and reduces behavioral and payment issues. Still have questions? Visit the SigEp National Housing page.
