In Memoriam

With our membership nearing 300,000 and a 110-year legacy, Sigma Phi Epsilon owes a debt of gratitude to many who have come before us. And though members may scatter across the country and around the globe, we still feel a deep connection to our brothers.  Below are stories and obituaries that have been shared with Headquarters and acknowledge brothers who have passed away. At some obituary sites, you can also make comments and leave condolences for those brothers you knew or wish you had known.

Steven Mozian, Western Carolina ’04, passed away on July 13, 2013, after a life-long battle of cystic fibrosis. His fiancé, Amy Lee, writes, “he loved his chapter . . . lovingly reflected on his time with the brotherhood. So much so that we visited the campus and drove by his Fraternity house so he could relive the memories a couple years ago.”

 Brother Samuel J. Berenbeim, Colorado State '14, lost his battle with diabetes on June 21, 2013. Sam was pursuing a degree in chemical and biological engineering with minors in biomedical engineering and chemistry; he was 22-years old.

Deborah Williams, wife of Kenneth W. Williams, Radford '86, notified the Headquarters staff of the passing of her husband on April 24, 2013. Mrs. Williams stated that Ken was looking forward to the recolonization of the Radford SigEp chapter. View his obituary.

Hilda Bokos, the mother of George N. Bokos, Central Michigan '90, notified the Headquarters staff of her son's death. Mrs. Bokos writes, "George died from complications of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. He was previously vice president of a construction supply company. He fought a valiant battle against a foe that could not be vanquished. He will be remembered for his bravery, integrity and brilliant personality." View his obituary.

Jay Cardarette, Sam Houston State alumnus, reports the tragic death of Donald R. Frosch, Sam Houston State '92, and Brother Frosch's wife, Jeanne, on May 9, 2013. Read further details.

Trey Kertz, Oklahoma State RLC brother, passed away on February 10, 2013, after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer. Trey served his chapter as vice president of member development and was selected by his peers as a Zollinger Scholar. View his obituary.

Richard J. Maynard, West Virginia '69, passed away in August, 2012. Richard’s former wife, Joyce, said, “I remember the undergraduate years with Richard at his beloved WVU fraternity and have shared those wonderful times with the hundreds of others who mourn his untimely death. Jamie L. Rosely, Drexel '02, founding father of the Pennsylvania Beta Beta Chapter passed away on November 14, 2012.

The wife of Alan D. Blossom, McDaniel ’97, writes that her husband passed way on August 11, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. “Alan always had an amazing impact on everyone that he met and everyone's life is richer for having met him.” Alan served in the Gulf War as a United States Marine.

Lee Boudreau writes about the passing of his father, Solon B. Kemon, Cornell '43. "He always talked of his days in 'the House' as the best times of his life. John Plumley, Bradley '66, sent in an obituary on his SigEp brother David “Skip” Rickards, Bradley '66, from the Bradley Hilltopics magazine.

David “Skip” Rickards, April 18, 2011, Valparaiso, Ind. He retired as national sales manager of Okaya Electric in 2007. A Marine Corps veteran, he was commodore of the yacht club at Paw Paw Lake, Mich. Skip also enjoyed golf and vegetable gardening. Two sons and two grandchildren survive.
