Here is our yearly review of stellar accomplishments by SigEp undergraduate scholar athletes in winter and spring sports. Also mentioned are several alumni involved in both collegiate and professional sports. We encourage all chapters and alumni to send names of athletes to communications@sigep.net for future coverage.

BABSON
Alpine skiing co-captain Connor Lemenze, ’10, placed 23rd in the slalom at the ECSC regional meet. He was also 37th in the slalom and 39th in the grand slalom at the USCSA championship. Teammate Ricky Beneduci, ’13, competed in USCSA’s grand slalom. Hurdler Rob Chapruet, ’13, and long jumper Eddie Rosen, ’13, competed at the NEWMAC meet. Key swimmers were Greg DeWitt, ’13, and Matt Turkot, ’12.

BAKER
Golfer Mason Dick, ’13, placed fifth (223) at the HAAC meet and tied for 11th at the Baker Invitational. Other regulars on the links were co-captain Zack Rockey, ’10, and Adam Taylor, ’11. Travis Miller, ’13, won the HAAC high jump and Tanner Gleason, ’11, was third in the HAAC decathlon. Also competing at the HAAC track meet were Corey Clark, ’13, Christian Lehnherr, ’13, and Cody Hanel, ’13. Regulars on the tennis team were Keith Pipkin, ’11, Stephen Donly, ’11, and Casey Gleue, ’12.

BALDWIN-WALLACE
Wrestling at 157 lbs. was Tim Levitsky, ’11, while sprinter Stewart Pozzuto, ’12, and swimmer Brian Leffler, ’13, also saw action.

BUCKNELL
Golfer Will Bachman, ’12, averaged 77.5 over 15 rounds and was 30th at the Patriot League meet. Teammate Parker Phillips, ’11, shot an average of 80.3 over eight rounds. Clark Bogle, ’12, was a tennis regular (14-17 in singles) and was on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The swim team included butterfly/backstroke specialist Michael Volpe, ’11.

James Hulley, Carnegie Mellon, '10CARNEGIE MELLON
James Hulley, ’10, competed in the discus at the NCAA Division III meet after setting a new school record in the shot put (54’6”). He earned All-UAA honors after winning the shot and discus while placing second in the hammer throw. Pole vaulter Heath McAlister, ’12, was also on the squad.

CASE WESTERN RESERVE
Wrestler Jacob Kornblatt, ’10, was a regular at 174 lbs. and placed fourth at the Division III Midwest regional.

CLARKSON
Mike Rowe, Clarkson, '12Mike Rowe, ’12, was Liberty League Swimmer of the Week after winning the 200 backstroke and placing second in the 200 freestyle at the Kumpf Invitational. He posted three top 10 finishes (fourth in 200 backstroke, sixth in 100 backstroke, tenth in 500 freestyle) at the UNYSCSA regional meet.



COLUMBIA

Tennis co-captain Jonathan Wong, ’10, played in the NCAA Division I meet, earned All-Ivy first team honors (12-7 in singles, 13-6 in doubles) and became the only player in school history to lead his team to three Ivy League titles. Members of the lightweight rowing team were Alex Ciucci, ’12, Brian Marcus, ’12, Blake Pinell, ’13, and Alex Powell, ’12.

CREIGHTON
Jimmy Zuegner, ’11, averaged 82.3 for the golf team.

DARTMOUTH
Key members on the track squad were pole vaulter Ken DiCairano, ’10, and distance runners Tyler Ford, ’11, and Kevin Treadway, ’10. Nathan Potter, ’11, was on the lightweight rowing varsity 8 which placed sixth in the IRA grand final at the IRA.

DELAWARE
Weightman Ryan Beach, ’12, placed seventh in the discus at the Colonial Athletic Conference meet. His best distance was 149’6” and he also threw the hammer 144’.

DENISON
Eleven SigEps were on the 23-18 baseball squad. Outfielder Danny Kraus, ’13, hit .362 (34 of 94) with 21 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. Catcher Alex Horn, ’10, batted .306 (30 of 98) and outfielder Kevin Teague, '11, also hit .306 (22 of 72). Pitcher Freddy Marino, ’11, was 3-0 with two saves and Hunter Sorensen, ’12, pitched in 10 contests. Also contributing were second baseman Andrew Touhy, ’13 (.283 on 17 of 60), outfielder Danny Pritz, ’11, a .277 hitter (33 of 119) and outfielder David Holmes, ’12. Scoring 10 points for the 10-4 NCAA Division III lacrosse playoff club was Justin Hess, ’10. Also playing were midfielder Ross Leneski, ’13, and goalie Patrick Cuff, ’10. Chris Black, ’12, was on the 1600 meter relay team, which placed seventh at the NCAC meet.

DUKE
Members of Blue Devil squads were wrestler Chris Thumen, ’10, and fencer Jonathan Cross, ’10.

EAST CAROLINA
Spencer Barrick, ’10, placed second in the Conference-USA javelin event with a throw of 222’10”. He won the Penn Relays (214’6”) and was 21st (207’) at the NCAA East regional meet.

EASTERN ILLINOIS
Swimmer Ken Tiltges, ’13, was named top newcomer at the Summit League meet after winning the 100 freestyle (46.03) and being part of the third place 400 freestyle relay, along with Colin McGill, ’13. Competing in five individual Summit swimming events was Mike Lehman, ’13.

EMORY
Distance runner Scott Jarvis, ’13, had the track team’s best 5000 meter time (16:13.34) at the Furman Invitational.

Ryan Mathews, Fresno State, '11FRESNO STATE
All-American Ryan Mathews, ’11, is now a member of the San Diego Chargers after being the 12th player chosen in the NFL’s April draft.

GEORGIA TECH
Weightlifter Travis Cooper, ’11, of Team USA, won a silver medal during the 2010 World University championships in Chinese Taipei. He won the clean and jerk portion with a lift of 397 lbs. Patrick Tynan, ’12, saw action for the 9-4 Tech lacrosse squad.

JOHN CARROLL
Weightman Steve Borowy, ’12, placed fifth in the javelin at the OAC meet and had the team’s best discus throw. Pole vaulter Vince Kopen, ’13, was eighth at the OAC meet. Also competing at the OAC were Phillip Evankovich, ’13, and Jesse Tyus, ’13. Swimmer Max Wilberding, ’11, was on the OAC’s fourth place 200 medley relay team, and placed seventh in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Also competing at the OAC were Stanton Kochanek, ’12, and James McElroy, ’13.

JOHNS HOPKINS
Fencing co-captain Max Wieder, ’11, had a 64-34 record and was 11th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional. Also at the NCAA meet were Nick Barbera, ’13, who was 47-34 in epee’, and Michael Fellows, ’11 (24-22 in sabre). Kenny Felsenstein, ’12, was also an epee’ regular.

LAMBUTH
Golfer Aaron Ingalls, ’11, shot a 68 in winning the Treveca Invitational, tied for eighth at the Union Invitational and, along with teammate Eddy Whitaker, ’10, won the Tennessee Golf Association’s Four Ball Qualifier.

LAWRENCE
Swimmer Peter Brengel, ’12, won the MWC 100 and 200 backstroke titles. Mac Watson, ’11, placed fourth in the MWC 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, along with a fifth place in the 100 freestyle. Golfer Zach Joseph, ’12, tied for 17th at the Lawrence Fall Classic and tied for 19th at the Ripon Invitational.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Sprinter Keyon Mitchell, ’10, logged a best 100 meter time of 11.54 and had the team’s best distances in the long jump (22’4.5”) and triple jump (46’5.5”).

MAINE
In the American East championship 10,000 meter run, David Currier, ’13, was sixth and Spencer McElwain, ’12, was eighth.

MARYLAND
Andrew Kay, ’11, was a golf standout with a 75.64 average over 33 rounds (low of 70). He was fifth at the Firestone Invitational, 12th (146) at the C&F Bank Invitational and 27th (219) at the Atlantic Coast Conference meet.

M. I. T.
Distance runner Jack Bourbonnais, ’10, was named to the NEWMAC Spring Academic All-Conference team and was 16th in the NEWMAC 10,000 meter run. Squash players George Pratt, ’10, and Michael Zomnir, ’11, won CSA Scholar-Athlete Awards and teammate Austin Anderson, ’12, was also a regular. Fencer Richard LaGrandier, ’11, was 16th in foil at the NCAA Northeast regional.

MINNESOTA
Addison Demer, ’11, had a 23’5 ½” long jump at the Big 10 outdoor meet (which the Gophers won) and had a best triple jump (47’8”) at the Big 10 indoor meet.

MISSOURI
Ohio State head baseball coach Bob Todd, Missouri ’71, retired after 23 years at the school and a career win total of 1,024 (901 which came while at OSU). His 2010 Buckeyes squad had a 28-23 record and the school retired his jersey number late in the season.

MONMOUTH
Swimmer John Kaiser, ’10, was named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District College Division Team. At the MWC meet, he was third in the 400 freestyle; fourth in the 200 and 400 medley relays; and sixth in the 200 IM. Jack Clifford, ’10, was fifth in MWC one meter diving and was an MWC All-Academic choice. Baseball DH Stephen Underwood, ’10, batted .276 (29 of 105) and pitcher Phillip Scott, ’12, had a 3.60 ERA in 14 games. Tyler Morrow, ’10, played 11 games for the basketball squad and Matt Hassler, ’12, placed sixth in the MWC 110 meter hurdles event. Tennis player Ben Morrow, ’11, was 11-8 in singles and Brian Miller, ’12, was also a regular.

MORAVIAN
Key trackmen were pole vaulter Niccolo Dalpiaz, ’12, who reached 15’9” at the ECAC DIII meet; javelin thrower Gary Zack, ’12, who had a best of 190’7 ¼”; Graham Matthews, ’13, who posted the top 1000 meter indoor time; and weightmen Michael Facchiano, ’12, and Phillip Torres, ’13.

MOREHEAD STATE
Major league pitcher alumnus Jon Rauch, ’00, was the closer for the Minnesota Twins this season. As of August 25, he was 2-1 with a 3.35 ERA and 21 saves through 45 appearances.

MUHLENBERG
Yoni Farber, ’10, served as tennis co-captain for the second year and was joined by Robbie Goldwein, ’10, and Zach Adler, ’12.

Sam Haase, Nebraska, '11NEBRASKA
Matt Schilling, ’11, had a best indoor 800 time of 1:55 and a best 600 yard time of 1:15.37 indoors at the adidas Classic. High jumper Sam Haase, ’11, had a best leap of 6’10 ¾”.

NEBRASKA-KEARNEY
Playing for the golf team were Kris Koelzer, ’12, who averaged 77 over 11 rounds, and Garrett Goldsberry, ’12. Posting a 6-7 record at 125 lbs. for the wrestling squad was Josh Smith, ’14.

NORTHWESTERN
Tennis player Chris Jackman, '13, won the Flight C singles title at the the Wildcat Fall Invitational and played #6 singles during the last part of the spring season.

OHIO NORTHERN
Track team member Jarrod Stevens, ’12, had best distances of 19’9” in the long jump and 40’4 ¼” in the triple jump. David Heinemann, ’15, was on the swimming team.

OHIO WESLEYAN
All-NCAC second team infielder James DiBiasio, ’12, batted .365 (58 of 159) with a co-high 15 steals and 39 runs (second on the team). Pitcher Matthew Struble, ’10, had a 4-4 record and team high 41 strikeouts. He was NCAC Pitcher of the Week after throwing a one-hitter against Earlham. Catcher James Toland, ’13, hit .241 (20 of 83) and had six home runs and 24 RBI. He hit two homers in the same inning versus Earlham and had a grand slam and seven RBI against Anderson. Frank Weschler, ’11, saw action for the 10-4 Division III playoff lacrosse squad and Zach Weaver, ’11, was a tennis regular.

PENN STATE
Alumnus Mo Stroemel, ‘80, has been named head coach of the 2011 United States University Women’s Select Team. His squad will compete at the Winter World University Games January 27-February 6, 2011 in Erzurum, Turkey. For the last three years, he has been head coach of his alma mater’s Lady Icers after a stint as men’s assistant coach from 2004-07.

RANDOLPH-MACON
Kevin Lloyd, ’11, was a regular in singles and doubles for the tennis team.

RICHMOND
Playing again for the golf team was Brad Miller, ’12.

ROCHESTER
Alex Magill, ’12, was a regular on the tennis team.

ST. MARY’S
Golfer Sam Jernigan, ’12, was named to the All-Heartland Conference second team and averaged 74.7 for the season. He was in the top 15 at six tournaments. Teammate James Grant, ’10, also played in the Heartland meet.

SOUTH CAROLINA
Playing again for the Gamecocks’ tennis team was David Wolff, ’10.

STANFORD
Middle blocker Max Halvorson, ’11, saw action for the 24-6 volleyball squad which won the NCAA national championship. Center Matei Daian, ’12, played in 25 contests for the basketball team and fencer Michael Hammersley, ’11, was ninth in epee’ at the NCAA West regional meet.

STEVENS TECH
Mohamed Abuouf, Stevens Tech, '11Track tri-captain Mohamed Abuouf, ’11, won an Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports-Scholar Award and qualified for the NCAA DIII meet with a 110 hurdles time of 14.81. He set a new indoor mark of 7.84 in the 55 meter hurdles. Michael Pawalowski, ’11, earned All-Empire 8 honors after winning the triple jump (42’8”) and David DeWan, ’13, was All-Empire 8 in the 3000 steeplechase. Victor Servito, ’13, set school points records in the pentathlon (3,152) and decathlon (5,234) while Francis Garcia, ’13, was named the Ducks’ track Sportsman of the Year by the Empire 8. Other good trackmen were Kevin Morgera, ’10, Ryan Miskanich, ’14, and Ed Paulosky, ’14. First baseman Kenneth Meerendonk, ’11, was named to the NIC All-Fraternity All-American second team and the NJCBA third team. He hit .326 (45 of 138) with five homers and 29 RBI while also winning four games on the mound and striking out 43 batters. Co-captain/setter Brandt Grobeis, ’11, was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second teamer and volleyball team MVP. Timothy Karl, ’11, led the team with 135 blocks and had 203 kills. Bryant DeFranco, ’11, had 148 kills and Aaron Ostrovsky, ’11, was also a regular for the 20-12 squad. Fencer Dzmitry Lamianski, ’12, won the sabre event at the MACFA and seventh at the NCAA regional meet. Brad Warren, ’12, was a wrestling regular at 125 lbs.

TCU
Trackman Adam Benz, ’09, placed seventh in the 100 meters at the TCU Invitational and competed in two events at the indoor and outdoor Mountain West Conference meets. He was 14th in both the 100 and 200 meter events at the outdoor MWC event. Seeing action for the basketball squad was forward Zach Huie, ’12.

TEXAS
Former major leaguer, alumnus Keith Moreland, ’76, recently had his Longhorns baseball jersey number retired by the university. He led UT to three College World Series and the 1975 national championship. He was elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009 and currently does radio color commentary for Longhorns baseball and football broadcasts.

TEXAS-SAN ANTONIO
Guard Devin Gibson, ’11, was named to the North-American Interfraternity Conference All-Fraternity All-American Basketball Team and was the Southland Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 19-11 squad. He scored 375 points (12.5 per game); led with 1,053 minutes played, 135 assists (4.5 per game) and 82.5 % at the line (132 of 160). He also had 57 steals and grabbed 135 rebounds (4.5 per game).

THIEL
Baseball infielder Bobby Hillier, '13, batted .329 (26 of 79) with three triples and guard Wes Siko, ’10, played in 24 games for the 14-11 basketball squad. Greg Hogan, ’09, had an 8-8 wrestling mark at 157 lbs. and Kirt Strock, '12, threw the discus at the PAC meet.

TRINE
Lacrosse goalie Alex Gregg, ’11, made 98 saves and was named to the All-MLC first team. Second in scoring with 23 points (17 goals, six assists) was Andy Lauer, ’12.

TRUMAN STATE
Earning ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second team selection was tennis standout Peter Bracha, ’10, who had a 9-7 doubles mark. Teammate Ben Rusk, ’10, was 15-8 in singles play. Second baseman Luke Crader, ’11, batted .299 (50 of 167) and scored 25 runs.

VALPARAISO
Competing for the track squad were Jarrett Mickens, ’11, and Nathan Bluhm, ’13.

VILLANOVA
A leading player on the links was Colin List, ’11, who went to the Big East golf meet. Also on the squad were Matthew Hardy, ’11, and Alex Penza, ’13.

WASHINGTON
Zach Woods, ’10, had a season-best javelin throw of 189’4” at the Stanford Invitational.

WASHINGTON & LEE
Nate Adkins, ’10, pitched in 10 contests for the Generals.

John Watts, Washington University, '10WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS
Tennis star John Watts, ’10, was the 2010 NCAA Division III singles champ, ITA National Senior Player of the Year and a member of the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team. This spring, he was 35-5 at #1 singles and 25-6 in #1 doubles. Also playing was teammate Slavi Fildish, ’10, who was 5-2 in singles and 7-2 in doubles.

WESTMINSTER
Golfer David Mlinarich, ’12 tied for 17th at the PAC Fall Invitational and Andy Wallen, ’12, pitched in nine contests. Mark Drabick, ’10, was a singles and doubles regular on the tennis team. Weightman Josh Bradley, ’12, led a group of five SigEps on the track squad.

WORCESTER TECH
Wrestler Dylan Billings, ’13, competed at 197 lbs. during the NEWMAC meet and Anthony Corbo, ’11, saw action at 285 lbs. He was also on the track team, along with weightman T.J. Liguori, ’13.
