After my experience at this year’s EDGE program, I can say that it was a phenomenal way to be introduced to what it means to be a SigEp. The sessions were more than enjoyable because they also presented us a great deal of challenges. From life planning to discussions on our Ritual, EDGE showed me that SigEp is more than just a brotherhood; it's also a way to live your life outside of college.
One challenge we faced during the weekend was creating our roadmap to success. Setting SMART goals took a great deal of mental effort and forethought, and I appreciated how these aspects of the program not only challenged us within SigEp and outside of SigEp. We created a four-year timeline for what we wanted to do as members of SigEp, and we planned what we wanted to achieve towards our careers. We even mapped out goals that will help us achieve Sound Mind and Sound Body.
During the “My Values, My Rituals and Why They Matter” session, we further discussed the purpose of our Fraternity. We came together as brothers and accepted our responsibility to individually live out the Ritual and its teachings in everything we do. It was a powerful moment to see my fellow brothers realize the gravity of the responsibility that comes along with being a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
In order to help us keep on track with our goals, we were paired with an accountability partner from another chapter. We spent some time getting to know each other, and even made up our own handshake. At the end of EDGE we exchanged information cards with our goals and contact information so we could check on our progress in four weeks. I’m looking forward to having someone to share my SigEp experience with, as well as have another perspective on what it means to be a fraternity man.
Seeing brothers from different chapters as well as meeting alumni leaders from the Fraternity showed me that the brotherhood of SigEp goes well beyond my chapter and my own experience. I am excited to build stronger bonds with the men I met this week, and develop a sturdy relationship within this brotherhood that will last for a lifetime. I look forward to attending more leadership events offered by the Fraternity in the future, and the EDGE experience was one that I will never forget. More than ever it made me proud to be a SigEp!
