What is a Resident Scholar?

  A Resident Scholar is a full-tme graduate student who resides within a chapter facility, providing undergraduate members daily peer mentorship. The Resident Scholar position is designed to support the development of undergraduate chapter members in the areas of Academics & Leadership.

Who can be a Resident Scholar?                         Resident Scholars can be males or females who demonstrate qualities of character, maturity, leadership, and breadth of perception.

Why have a Resident Scholar?

 

A Resident Scholar has 4 primary responsibilities:

  • Assist new members in their acclimation to college life.
  • Mentor a chapter's executive board so as to affect its ability to improve chapter operations and the membership experience.
  • Help older members smoothly transition from college to the work place or to a graduate program.
  • Communicate the chapter's progress, goals, and metrics to the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation (AVC), the SigEp Headquarters Staff, and the university.

 

Resident Scholar Training

  A basic introduction to Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Residtent Scholar position are provided by the national fraternity throughout the academic year at nationally sponsored events like Resident Scholar Weekend (when offered), Carlson Leadership Academy, and Grand Chapter Conclave.
