Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity

Balanced Man Program Implementation

The Balanced Man Program was created so that SigEp chapters across the nation could provide the ultimate fraternity experience. To take full advantage of this program, your chapter must:

  • Understand the philosophy of the Balanced Man Program and implement those tenets in the experience.
  • Have brothers who understand the philosophy and want to bring that philosophy to life in order to support fellow members.
  • Define a process for the Balanced Man Program to be implemented on your campus.
  • Provide quality programming that teaches invaluable skills that set your members apart from their peers.

Implementing these four elements of the program is  no easy task. Fortunately, there are resources to help your chapter make the most of the BMP.

Balanced Man Program Guide

The Balanced Man Program Guide is a comprehensive user's guide that outlines the BMP philosophy, people, process and programming. This guide will help you understand the entirety of the Balanced Man Program. Volunteer and undergraduate leaders across the country helped develop the guide which provides a comprehensive overview of the program and the steps to effectively implement the experience at a chapter.

While this document can help anyone  better understand the Balanced Man Program, it is geared towards helping vice presidents of member development, development committees, and volunteers better understand and execute the Balanced Man Program.

Challenge Databases

The Balanced Man Program Guide is accompanied by four challenge databases:

Each challenge database has over 100 suggestions for challenge content to provide you with quality programs and activities that fulfill the outcomes of each challenge. You can choose from the menu of options based on your chapter’s needs as you improve your current challenges or build new ones.  For more information on how to use the challenge databases, see page 40 of the Balanced Man Program Guide

Challenge Overview

The Balanced Man Program Guide and Challenge Databases are accompanied by the Challenge Overview. This resource will help you build a framework for your chapter's member development program and track the progress of brothers. It is intended to be used by the vice president of member development and his challenge coordinators and given to challenge participants as a guide.

This resource is also available in the form of a Google Document to allow chapters to easily share the document with all members so they can track their progress as they go. To obtain the Challenge Overview Google Document, please contact your regional director.

To learn more about this resource read the Challenge Overview Instructions or view the video.

Introduction to the Balanced Man Program Webinar

Take a look at the Introduction to the Balanced Man Program Webinar. This video will provide you with a high level understanding of the philosophy, people, process and programming of the BMP. This presentation is geared towards providing volunteers and chapter leaders a simple and thorough explanation of the program.

Read more about Sound Mind, Sound Body and Service Learning aspects of the program. You can also review the book, The Lifetime Responsibility of Brotherhood, given to each new member, which provides further details about the program and the Fraternity.
