If your chapter is interested in hosting an event major enough to be outside the scope of Sigma Phi Epsilon’s risk management policies, the chapter must contact the Director of Risk Management Kathy Johnston to discuss the event plans and the process for obtaining special event coverage. Special events present a greater liability exposure on the Fraternity and require additional insurance coverage.
Special event coverage is a General Liability policy that is purchased to insure a specific function or activity and usually covers a period of time less than seven days. The usual and customary minimum limit of coverage is $1 million with higher limits available.
What qualifies as a special event?
To obtain special event coverage, a chapter officer must complete a special event application to obtain a quote for a special event insurance policy that will serve as the primary insurance for the event.
Kathy Johnston can be reached at (804) 612-1402. It is suggested that you contact Kathy at least 60 days in advance to get information on planning guidelines and obtaining special event coverage.
